Eike Dietrich

International 14

Eike started sailing in the Optimist on the Wittensee in 1992, which was an ideal place to learn – a quiet lake in Northern Germany. After two years, he transitioned into the 420 but grew out of that rather quickly so started to race in various other classes including the 505, Star and 49er.

Whilst racing, Eike started to teach other young sailors, and in 2003 he asked Georg Borkenstein (one of his protégée’s) to join in his International 14 campaign – “the coolest skiff class”. Ever since the Int.14 2005 Europeans in Travemünde, they have been competing and enjoying a successful partnership (winners of 6 German International 14 Nationals in eight years).

In 2012, he took part in the 18 Footer skiff World Tour and even won the UK Nationals – another amazing skiff.

2018 was an amazing year for both Georg and Eike - they joined as NeilPryde Sailing Elite Riders and enjoyed the best ever result for a German I14 skiff team at the World Championships in San Francisco - one race win and third overall. They're now looking forward to 2019 and getting faster...
