Aled is a 29er helm from Saundersfoot Sailing Club currently sailing with Benjamin Bradley. They entered GP1 held at WPNSA early Sept 2019 as a new partnership having sailed only one day together. They have subsequently been invited to be part of the RYA 29er Youth Squad 2019/20.
Aled entered the 29er class in late summer of 2018 with Ben Willett and together they had a great first season. They finished on a high in their first season finishing 6th overall and winning the Junior category by a good margin in the 29er UK Grand Prix Series 2018/19. They made Welsh 29er junior squad over the winter, working and training hard, striving to improve. They achieved their first top 10 race places by November and built on that with 3 Grand Prix finishes in the top 10 overall by Spring 2019. Over the summer they competed in the 29er Worlds in Gdynia Poland, UK 29er Nationals in Pwllheli and the 29er European championships at Lake Garda, Italy. At the end of the summer they decided that they wanted the experience of sailing with different partners. Aled paired up with Ben Bradley, an experienced crew having transitioned from RS Fevas into the 29er class at the same time as Aled.
All of this builds on a strong track record for Aled: He was successful in junior classes in the UK winning the Topper Class National Series overall in 2017/18. He won the Welsh zones in 2017 and came through the RYA Junior squads, where he spent several seasons with many podium finishes throughout his time in the Topper class. Before all this he first set sail in an Optimist, racing at Saundersfoot SC, West Wales where he first got the sailing bug a little over 7 years ago.
