From 12th to 25th August 2018 we took part in the 2018 International 14 World Championships racing in San Francisco Bay, hosted by the Richmond Yacht Club. Our container arrived on time, which made it easier to start the preparation routine which we didn’t have with the six Worlds previously.
Before the Individuals started, we took the chance to sail the Team Worlds including the very famous presentation night. The result is not worth mentioning though, it was good training to explore the “San Francisco Bay Conditions“.
After the Practice Race we finished the boatwork and finalised our tactical strategy – start aggressive, sail fast and have fun!
The strategy worked out and we could prove that a ten years old boat can be fast enough for world’s elite. With a series of 3,9,3,1,18,2,7 we finished third overall and achieved the best German result all times. Moreover we made history with winning the first German bullet. An amazing feeling! Especially when friends flew over for the last race and cheered us on the water - beyond description!
Father and son duo, Andy and Tom Partington, took the title - well deserved.
Many thanks to the RYC with all the volunteers for such a great event, to VR Sport for exclusive video coverage and to NeilPryde Sailing for perfect sailing gear.
